May 2019 saw passenger vehicles (PVs) register negative growth of 20.55 percent with 239,347 units (May 2018: 301,238) and post their poorest performance after September 2001, when the segment had fallen by 22 percent.

The sales downturn is here and present and the turbulence has been continuing for close to 10 months, starting off right from August 2018 with the devastating floods in Kerala.
