The Bangalore-based electric motorcycle start-up Ultraviolette is readying for the launch of its F77 motorcycle, which has been long in the making. The company, which has announced commencement of production trials at its production facility near Bangalore, has confirmed a launch date of November 24, 2022.
To mark the start of production, Ultraviolette hosted about 100 of its key manufacturing partners and vendors from across the country at the plant for a first-hand glimpse of the production-ready F77. The event was attended by over 100 suppliers, including Bosch, Brembo, Gabriel, SACL (Sundaram Auto Components Ltd), Minda and Fiem Industries. From showcasing the parts, production specs to unveiling the production line, the visitors also got an opportunity to get a close view of the assembly sequence of the F77.
According to Ultraviolette, “The F77 is a highly evolved, performance-oriented motorcycle and is built indigenously from the ground up, with principles used in the aviation industry — right from the advanced engineering simulations and multi-level safety systems to the design identity of the motorcycle.”
Ace of pace
From what we can glean, the Ultraviolette develops maximum power of 33.5hp at 2250rpm and 90Nm torque at 4500rpm. Equipped with three modular lithium-ion battery packs (4.2kWh), the F77 will have a range of 130 to 150km.
Given its billing as a performance EV on two wheels, the F77 has a claimed 0-60kph time of 2.9 seconds and 0-100kph in 7.5 seconds. Top speed is 147kph. The 158kg F77 has three riding modes – Eco mode, Sport mode and Insane mode.
The F77, which is shod with 110/70-R17 (front) and 150/60-R17 (rear) tyres, uses a 12mm piston with adjustable preload spring in front and a gas-charged preload adjustable shock absorber at the rear for suspension duties. The F77 will employ a dual-channel Antilock Braking System (ABS)
The high-on-telematics EV has plenty of smart features including temperature, voltage and current sensors with active tracking and efficiency mapping across the vehicle. There is also error reporting through an Ultraviolette iOS and Android-compatible smartphone app.
The EV start-up, in which TVS Motor Co has an equity stake, recently held a ‘test pilot programme’ where 30 riders got a chance to put the F77 through its paces on a test track.
While no technical specifications of the soon-to-be-launched F77 have been revealed, the company plans to make announce details of the battery, range, price and launch dates very soon.
Ultraviolette, which aims to become a global electric mobility brand, plans to also export the F77 after the domestic market launch later this year.
