TVS Victor races past 100,000 sales mark

TVS Motor Company’s 110cc commuter motorcycle, the Victor, has crossed the 100,000 units sales mark in India within eight months of its launch.

The success of the Victor brand has help drive up the company’s market share close to 8% in the overall motorcycle segment in India. The company expects to attain a 10-12% market share in the domestic motorcycle market in the next two years with TVS Victor expected to the major growth driver.

Commenting on the Victor’s milestone, Arun Siddharth, vice-president – Marketing (Motorcycles), TVS Motor Company, said, “We are delighted to have 100,000 families join us on this journey. We are confident that we will build on the growth momentum.”

Launched along with the Apache RTR 200 on January 20, the new Victor was re-introduced 14 years after the first Victor, a commuter motorcycle that had a great run and the first product developed by TVS on its own after its split with Suzuki Motor Corp. In its heyday in 2002, the original Victor had clocked sales of over 40,000 units a month.

The new version of the commuter brand has however managed a steady rate of growth since the start of the year. April and May saw TVS sell over 18,000 units before sales went down for the next couple of months. However, in August, the bike has managed to record its highest number so far. If the Victor manages to continue notching new buyers, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see it enter the Top 10 motorcycles list soon.

The new Victor, billed as “an ideal combination of modern styling, superior engine performance and class-leading comfort” is powered by a refined three-valve EcoThrust engine which has been tuned to deliver optimum power and fuel economy. An electric start fires up the four-speed powertrain to develop 9.46bhp at 8000rpm with a torque of 9.4 Nm at 6000rpm.

Targeted at riders looking for comfort, safety and handling, the new Victor is claimed to deliver a mileage of 76kpl with its 8-litre fuel tank. The Victor comes in both disc and drum brake versions and is built on a single-cradle, tubular frame.
