TVS Motor Company clocked domestic two-wheeler sales of 196,956 units in March 2022, down 2.5 percent from 202,155 units in March 2021. Even on a month-on-month comparison, the sales are down 30 percent from 281,714 units in February 2022.
According to the company, the shortage in supply of semiconductors has impacted the production and sales of premium two-wheelers. As per the company statement, TVS Motor is “cautiously optimistic that the supply of semiconductors will improve in the coming months.”
Launch of the Raider 125cc motorcycle in Latin America (LATAM) has been one of the key highlights for the two-wheeler maker in March. The Raider 125 is powered by a 124.8cc, three-valve, air-cooled engine which develops 11.4hp at 7500rpm and 11.2Nm of torque at 6000rpm. The fuel-injected powerplant is mated to a five-speed gearbox. TVS claims the Raider does the 0-60kph sprint in 5.9 seconds and has a top speed of 99kph. Fuel efficiency is a claimed 67 kilometres per litre on this bike which is shod with 17-inch tyres.
For the fourth quarter of FY2022, sales for the two-wheeler maker slipped 8 percent to 815,000 units as against 887,000 units registered in the fourth quarter of FY2021.
