Triumph Bonneville T120 launched at starting price of Rs 8.7 lakh
The all-new Bonneville, which is powered by a parallel-twin, 1200cc engine, was unveiled during the 2016 Auto Expo in February.
Triumph Motorcycles India has announced the starting price of Rs 8.7 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for its Bonneville T120, the largest by engine displacement and most powerful model in the Bonneville line-up.
The all-new Bonneville, which is powered by a parallel-twin, 1200cc engine, was unveiled during the 2016 Auto Expo in February. With T120, the company will have four models under its Bonneville brand – 865cc Bonneville, 865cc Bonneville T100, 900cc Bonneville Street Twin and 1200cc Bonneville T120 – on sale in India.
It can be recalled that earlier the Classic models (865cc Thruxton and Bonneville and its T100 variant) were the bestselling motorcycles for Triumph Motorcycles in India. Later while the sales of modern classics declined, other models primarily Street Triple, Daytona variants (both powered by three-cylinder, 675cc engine) and the Tiger series (XC, XCx, XCA, XR, XRx, XRT) – all imported via the CKD route and assembled in India in Manesar – gained popularity and accounted for good month-on-month numbers.
The addition of two new Bonneville variants, which also are more powerful and laden with superior technological features such as ride-by-wire system (for enhanced throttle response, safety and fuel economy), traction control (switchable feature to optimise the torque delivery), slip assist clutch (lighter clutch for easy riding for longer hours), heated grips, built-in engine immobiliser and several others clearly underline the company’s intent to consolidate the sales under this Classic brand in the coming months.
Commenting on this, Vimal Sumbly, managing director, Triumph Motorcycles, India, said, “The original Bonneville T120 has enjoyed a great legacy and character amongst its loyalists. We are sure the Indian customers will take to the new, modern yet authentic T120 with absolute zeal and pride. It comes with real pedigree, presence and performance yet retains its class. We look forward to exciting times ahead with our new range.”
According to the company website, the Bonneville range starts with a Delhi ex-showroom price tag of Rs 619,990 – for the regular 865cc variant.
With the new Bonneville models, the company has also introduced several customisation options along with a huge range of more than 160 accessories. This includes Vance & Hines silencers, chrome clutch levers, alternators, throttle body embellishers, fuel tank badge and other accessories.
An official company release states that it has started accepting the bookings of the latest and the most expensive Bonneville variant – T120 – across its existing 12 dealerships from today.
Triumph Motorcycles India currently sells more than a dozen models along with many more variants across four motorcycle categories – modern classics (Bonneville, Thruxton), roadsters (Speed Triple, Street Triple) and supersports (Daytona), adventure and touring (Tiger series) and cruisers (Thunderbird, Rocket III).
While the company has sold 328 units of the Bonneville models during April 2015-February 2016, the models under its roadsters and supersports portfolio has accounted for total sales of 507 units during the same period.
