Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), an institute designed to train young talent from the rural corners of Karnataka, today celebrated its seventh convocation ceremony and conferred academic degrees to 64 students from the outgoing batch of 2013-2016.
The academic honours were handed over by the chief guest Venu Srinivasan, chairman, TVS Motor Co along with Vikram Kirloskar, vice-chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Akito Tachibana, MD, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

Helping grow skill sets
TTTI trains intelligent students from economically weaker sections of the society to become skilled technicians in auto manufacturing and plant administration. The curriculum focuses on the holistic development of knowledge, skill and body and mind. Since establishment, the institute has trained 448 students who have been inducted at Toyota Kirloskar Motor and other Toyota Group companies.
Sharing his views, Vikram Kirloskar said, “There has been an apparent disparity in the learning curve between the education imparted and on-ground skills among the youth today. Toyota Kirloskar Motor has been working tirelessly towards addressing this issue through institutes like TTTI that not only hone skill sets but also provide on-the-job trainings. I take this opportunity to wish the best for the outgoing students.”

Comprehensive 3-year course
The three-year rigorous academic course at TTTI consists of a comprehensive, full-time training in Automobile Assembly, Automobile Paint, Automobile Weld and Mechatronics. The courses involve training at the TKM plant where students are given practical training of applying the world-renowned Toyota Production Systems to the various manufacturing processes.
TTTI curriculum is designed to be a complete learning experience, with basic subjects and recreational activities being included in addition to imparting knowledge on automobile manufacturing. The purpose of this technical training institute is to offer students an opportunity to acquire special skills of ‘Monozukuri’ (skilled manufacturing).
The students can also appear for the NSQF (National Skills Qualification Framework) exam; on graduating, they become eligible to work in any industry including government services or even explore opportunities overseas.
The TTTI students have been participating in various competitive contests held in India and at a global level and have won many awards. At the global level, they showcased 26 skill sets during the 2015 World Skill Competition held in Brazil, securing fourth position by winning a Medallion of Excellence Award.
