In a bid to garner more customers for its Nano, Tata Motors has tied up with car rental company Carzonrent for launching the Myles City-Drive initiative in Delhi-NCR.
Under the Myles self-drive, 200 Tata Nano Twists will be available across 43 locations in the city for a drive around with key target customers being young professionals. Fitted with the electric power assisted steering system (EPAS), the Nano will enable easier driving and parking in Delhi’s choca-block traffic.
The self-drive will cost Rs 99 per hour, Rs 399 for a full day and Rs 6,999 for a month inclusive of fuel, according to Rajiv Vij, MD and CEO, Carzonrent. “Myles city-drive with the Nano Twist will provide the city commuters a license to drive, empowering them to do and enjoy everyday life a little more. This association with Tata Motors is a step forward on Carzonrent’s endeavour to build long-term partnerships with auto manufacturers to develop a dynamic ground mobility landscape in India,” he said. “Our endeavour is to make self-drive a conscious option for everyday commuters, which is not only beneficial for them but also for the city and its environment at large.”
The self-drive concept promotes car sharing or usage based on requirement and would be a more economical option than owning and maintaining a car. In case of break downs, the Nano Twist would be serviced at Tata dealerships.
The Myles self-drive programme of Carzonrent, first launched last November, started with a fleet of 14 cars and has now risen to 600 cars across 16 cities and 83 operating units. These make the vehicles available through online bookings and payments. Carzonrent’s stable of cars includes the Mahindra e20, Swift, Innova, XUV500 and Mercedes-Benz luxury cars too.
The company’s target is to reach 1,000 rental cars by year end and 5,000 cars by 2016. The Myles initiative is an attempt to change the way a commuter travels.
Deepankar Tiwari, head (Institutional Sales), Tata Motors, said that self-drive is an emerging segment and Tata Motors has made 200 cars available for Delhi-NCR with all the cars being new ones.
On an average, none of the cars under the Myles programme are more than 18 months old and a comprehensive insurance package with zero depreciation has been taken on them to ensure against accidents.
Carzonrent has invested Rs 50 crore on the Myles programme so far with about 70 percent utilisation till date.
