Tata Motors today released a teaser illustration of its upcoming Tiago-based compact sedan (previously known by its internal codename Kite 5) which has been named Tigor.
The carmaker had showcased the compact sedan concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Tigor is styled like the Tiago up to the C-pillar but gets a neatly integrated boot, unlike some of the other compact sedans in India.
The Tigor, which is the next Tata car after the Hexa and Tiago to get the company’s Impact design language, is targeted at young, confident individuals.
Announcing the Tigor name, Mayank Pareek, president, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “After the Hexa, we are speeding towards our next market introduction. The Tata Tigor opens a new category of style and attitude in this segment. We will announce its commercial launch soon.”
Likely to be priced in the Rs 400,000-Rs 650,000 range, the Tigor will be slotted slightly below the other models in the segment, except the upcoming Chevrolet Beat Essentia which is set to be launched in 2017.
