Tata Motors aims to be among top 3 global CV and domestic PV OEMs by FY2019

Under its new vision statement formulated by managing director and CEO Guenter Butschek, Tata Motors aims to be among the top three global commercial vehicle manufacturers and domestic passenger vehicle manufacturers by FY2019.

Butschek, who took up the reins of the company on February 15 this year, has hit the ground running since he took charge of the country’s biggest automaker by revenues. Under the new mission statement labeled ‘Futuready’, Tata Motors has narrowed down its targets into three broad categories. Apart from the primary goal of improving its global CV and domestic PV performance, the automaker is focusing on achieving ‘sustainable financial performance’ and ‘delivering exciting innovations’.

“We have set ambitious goals which could be attained if we truly optimise our capabilities and achieve desired results during each intermediate financial year,” said Butschek on how the company plans to go about approaching the new goals.

With a reputation of being a taskmaster Butschek has his sights clear on taking Tata Motors to newer heights and the new vision statement seems to be the first concrete step in this direction.

“There is a lot that has to change in Tata Motors and my job is to make that change,” he had said at the Geneva Motor Show, soon after joining the company.

The straight-shooting German is a hardcore manufacturing expert with a strong focus on quality that’s been honed after nearly 25 years of working with Daimler AG in various positions. Now with a new vision statement in place and a clear roadmap as well, it would be interesting to see how soon Butschek manages to bring in the much-needed change.
