Tata AutoComp Systems, one of India’s dynamic and leading automotive component majors, is celebrating its 25th anniversary, the landmark having come on October 17, 2020. A quarter-century ago, the company began operations from Pune, where it had acquired 30 acres of land in Hinjewadi to set up its first plant.
The 25th anniversary virtual celebrations were attended by over 16,000 people from all across the globe which included its employees, partners, customers, suppliers and key stakeholders.
In his message, founder chairman of Tata AutoComp and chairman of Tata Trusts, Mr Ratan N Tata spoke about his vision to establish a formal auto component company in India that could bring in technology for the nascent auto industry in those times. He mentioned the challenges faced in those early days to attract global premier companies to invest in India. By establishing joint ventures with a number of global auto component companies, Mr Tata laid a strong foundation for Tata AutoComp Systems. N Chandrasekaran, chairman, Tata Sons complimented Tata AutoComp Systems on its journey and contribution to the Tata Group.
Speaking on the occasion, Arvind Goel, managing director of Tata AutoComp Systems said, “Over the past 25 years, Tata AutoComp has transitioned from a local player to a global player, bringing cutting-edge technology to its customers through its own businesses as well as joint ventures with leading global companies.”
While tracing the history of Tata AutoComp, he outlined the company’s mantra for the future – built on Simplicity Synergy, Scale as directed by the Group Chairman along with Empathy for customer demand, Collaboration with partners and suppliers and a performance-driven Culture. “Our goal is to be a US$ 3 billion (Rs 22,203 crore) company by 2025,” said Goel in his address.
It may be recollected that the Tata Indica, India's first indigenously manufactured passenger car, had a significant contribution from Tata AutoComp Systems.
Complementing the company on its journey, Pravin Kadle, chairman, Tata AutoComp Systems said: “Over the years, Tata AutoComp has continuously been enhancing its customer and product portfolio, it has also been investing in creating strong systems and processes under the Tata Business Excellence Model.”
10 JVs and all-encompassing product portfolio
Tata AutoComp Systems today caters to almost all auto OEMs in the world and has also developed a strong portfolio to serve the emerging EV segment. With huge investments in R&D, cutting-edge technology and strong manufacturing processes, Tata AutoComp is poised to be a global leader in the automotive component industry.
Tata AutoComp has its own capabilities in automotive interior and exterior plastics, composites, sheet metal stampings as well as engineering and supply chain. The company currently has 10 joint ventures in partnership with leading companies from the global auto component industry, including TRAD and GS Yuasa of Japan, Ficosa of Spain, Air International of China, Katcon of Mexico, Hendrickson and Magna of US, Gotion of China and SECO of South Korea.
Through these JVs, it manufactures and markets automotive components and systems like engine cooling solutions, automotive batteries, rear view mirrors, command systems, HVAC, exhaust and emission control systems, seating systems, battery pack, battery cooling system, battery management system, motors, controllers, integrated drivetrain (integrated motor, inverter and reducer), EV chargers and electronic solutions for passenger and commercial vehicles as well as suspensions for heavy commercial vehicles.
