Tata Motors has launched an extended range Tigor electric sedan, which is equipped with a 21.5 kWh battery pack. The new Tigor EV variant has an ARAI-certified range of 213km, compared to the regular Tigor EV which with a 16.2kWh battery pack has a claimed 142km range on a single charge.
The green sedan will be available in three variants – XE+, XM+ and XT+ – for both fleet and personal segment customers across 30 cities, at a starting price of Rs 944,000 ex-showroom Delhi (after deducting government subsidies). The original Tigor EV is priced at Rs 917,000, Rs 27,000 more than the new extended range variant.
The company says the Extended Range Tigor EV's battery cooling system is designed to ensure consistent performance even in extreme ambient temperature conditions. The car has two charging ports – fast charging as well as slow AC charging.
The Tigor EV qualifies for a FAME II incentive for eligible commercial customers. The new extended version offers an enhanced driving range, low cost of ownership, connectivity, comfort of a sedan and zero emissions.
Commenting on the new extended range variant, Ashesh Dhar, Head – Sales, Marketing and Customer Service, Electric Vehicle Business, Tata Motors, said, “The Tigor EV Extended Range model addresses the requirements of longer-range applications and also provides higher revenue earning potential for our commercial customers. This new version builds on the success of the Tigor EV, which is already deployed with several fleets and government customers.”
The Tigor EV Extended Range comes with dual airbags (XE+ variant with driver airbag only) and an anti-lock braking system as standard safety features. The vehicle also comes with a warranty of 3 years or 125,000km, whichever is earlier.
The Extended Range Tigor EV is part of Tata Motors' reworked strategy to "play big" in EV space. Earlier this year, Autocar Professional had revealed that the company had lined up 4 new models, of which the Tigor EV with an extended range was to be the first.
