Minda Corporation has entered the helmet space launching 17 models with 145 variants. The Protective Head Gear will be available in three customer segments - Economy (Knight series), Mid (Garrison series) and the Premium (Armored series) category, the company said.
Currently, the aftermarket division at Spark Minda has a network of over 500 distributors and 12,000 plus retailers across India offers 12 product lines including locks, wiring harness, Instruments, auto electrical components (starter motor), flasher, relays, CDI, wiper, cable, filter, lubricant, brake shoe, clutch plate, and bearing. With the launch of helmets, the company has forayed into the consumer space.
The potential market for helmets is huge given the sheer numbers of two-wheelers sold. At present, almost 40-45 percent of the market comprises players from the unorganised segment.
Neeraj Sharan, CEO, Aftermarket Division, Minda Corporation said the launch of its extensive helmet product range will bring a significant disruption and help it become one of the leading players. "We want to ensure that certified helmets are available to every two-wheeler rider. Going forward, the company plans to expand the merchandise portfolio by launching new products and have the largest range of fibre parts for our two-wheeler riders in the country.”
According to the company, the plan for next few years is to add 200 plus distributors and open exclusive Spark Minda branded outlets across the country.
Spark Minda also announced the launch of 1500 fibre parts (plastic-moulded, painted components for two-wheelers) to meet growing demand. This number is targeted to increase to 2400 in the next two years, it added.
