Skoda Auto Volkswagen India (SAVWIPL), which manages the Indian operations of five VW Group brands – Skoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini, has started accepting applications for the 11th batch of its Mechatronics programme.
Once completed, high school graduates and workers displaced from low-skilled jobs who do the course will be equipped with new age skills.
A total of 16 students will be selected for the programme on the basis of an online aptitude test, and will be eligible for a monthly stipend of Rs 7,875 for the first year, and proportionately for the second and third years.
SAVWIPL runs the programme in partnership with the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce that awards the DIHK certificate and the National Council for Vocational Training for conducting the All India Trade Test.
Course content
Apprentices in the programme enhance their skills in mechatronics engineering, which includes areas such as mechanical, electrical, electronic, and information technology. They will also be given hands-on work experience at SAVWIPL in such areas as production, maintenance, planning, quality assurance, and research and development.
The programme also includes classroom sessions in specialised trade schools. The candidates will spend 70 percent of their time on the job under the supervision of SAVWIPL certified trainers, and the rest in the classroom. The last date to enroll in the program is July 8 2022 and the Online Aptitude Test will be conducted on July 25 2022.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director, SAVWIPL said, “Our Mechatronics programme is in line with the Skill India initiative introduced by the government to empower the youth of our country. The Mechatronics apprentice training programme focuses on upskilling and providing tech-based learning to the young and talented.”
Sarma Chillara, group head, HR and administration, said,” The programme not only equips the young professionals to gain the desired skills required to start their career, but also prepares them with advanced skill sets to embrace any kind of disruptions that may change the existing scenario. The course has been designed by keeping in mind the latest trends and requirements of the sector and also the increasing complexity of operations.”
The Mechatronics 2022 programme was developed as part of the OEM's global initiative and is based on Germany's dual-track vocational training programme that provides supervised training to up-skill and re-skill employees. It gives apprentices the opportunity to work in overseas locations such as Germany and Brazil. A total of 128 Mechatronics professionals have been trained since the programme began in 2011. The company also gives out 'The Best Apprentice' award as a token of appreciation to the student who demonstrates exemplary performance during the course.
