Skoda launches entry-level Octavia Onyx at Rs 19.99 lakh

Skoda India has introduced a new entry-level trim to Octavia’s line-up. Dubbed 'Onyx', the new trim level is priced at Rs 19.99 lakh for the petrol-auto and Rs 21.99 lakh for the diesel-auto engine-gearbox options – about Rs 60,000 and Rs 1 lakh less than the Style variants of the respective configuration.

As far as changes go, the Onyx gets new 16-inch alloys finished in gloss black, gloss-black ORVMs, black decals along the side and a gloss-black boot-mounted spoiler. On the inside, the beige-and-black dual-tone upholstery of the standard Octavia has been replaced with an all-black theme. Furthermore, the Onyx trim also features a new ‘SuperSport’ flat-bottomed steering wheel and black leather upholstery for the seats. The Skoda Octavia Onyx is available in three paint shades – Candy White, Corrida Red and an all-new Race Blue.

Mechanically, the Onyx can be had in two configurations – petrol-automatic and diesel-automatic. The petrol model is powered by a 1.8-litre TSI engine that puts out 180hp and 250Nm of torque while being paired with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The diesel is powered by a 2.0-litre TDI motor which produces 143hp and 320Nm of torque and is coupled with a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

In terms of features, the Onyx gets all the goodies from the Octavia Style variant. This includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink compatibility, dual-zone automatic climate control, electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats, automatic LED headlamps with LED DRLs, automatic wipers, an auto-dimming IRVM and a cooled glove box. Safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, ESC, traction control, a rear parking camera, and front and rear parking sensors.  

In the executive sedan space, the Skoda Octavia competes with the recently-updated Hyundai Elantra, the Toyota Corolla Altis and the Honda Civic.

This is not the first time Skoda has used the ‘Onyx’ moniker for a trim level. The carmaker had launched a Rapid Onyx edition in 2018. However, unlike in the Octavia, the Rapid Onyx was the sedan's top-spec variant.
