SIAM plans green motoring initiative through 6,000 dealers across India
Commemorating World Environment Day, SIAM-SAFE will work with 6,000 automobile dealers to boost safety and environment awareness among vehicle owners and society at large.
Society for Automotive Fitness & Environment (SAFE), an initiative by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) is to celebrate the World Environment Day on June 5 across 6,000 automobile dealers across the nation.
SAFE will organise various activities related to environment safety and conservation along with a pledge to spread awareness around environment protection, sustainability and eco-conscious growth. The nationwide initiative will be held on June 5-6 and will be extended for a week in select dealerships for better reach and service.
Some specific activities at dealership outlets will include free day-long PUC (pollution under control) check-ups and the issuing of free PUC certificates at various dealers across India. Other highlights of the green mission include such as environment quiz competitions for children, environment conservation tips for customers, sapling distribution, tree plantation, green processions and awareness rallies.
Speaking on the eve of the launch, Vishnu Mathur, director general – SIAM, said: “SIAM SAFE is organising these activities to ensure that as a responsible citizen, we are able to give back to nature. The auto industry is working towards creating a better environment and public awareness. All members are coming together to spread awareness among vehicle owners and society at large about creating a cleaner, greener environment.”
Several manufacturers such as Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto, Ford India, Hero MotoCorp, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, Hyundai Motor India, India Yamaha Motor, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki India, Renault India, Skoda Auto India, SML Isuzu, Tata Motors and Toyota Kirloskar Motor are participating in the green initiative through their dealerships.
