Seven Mahindra & Mahindra plants bag JIPM awards

Seven plants manufacturing a variety of vehicles ranging from SUVs, trucks and farm equipment have bagged the prestigious Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance.

Seven Mahindra & Mahindra plants bag JIPM awards

In what is a record achievement in the world of automotive manufacturing and a big boost for Make in India, seven automotive plants of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) have bagged the prestigious Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM). The awards were conferred yesterday at an awards ceremony in Kyoto, Japan yesterday.

JIPM launched the PM award system in 1964, to "strengthen the improvement of enterprise constitutions and contribute to the development of industry, by promoting the modernisation of plant maintenance and the development of plant maintenance technologies."

The Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Awards aim to recognise a manufacturing organisation’s commitment to qualitative production, through its focus on modernisation of plant maintenance and development of plant maintenance technologies. The measurement encompasses all operations, right from the shop-floor, to the functioning of the top-level machinery in a company.

The TPM awards, constituted in 1964 hold the value of being the barometer of development of Japan’s industrial sector and, were first accorded to any company outside of Japan only in 1991. The highly coveted recognition has been received by well over 2,000 plants across the world over the course of 54 years of its existence.

The awards were given for 'Excellence in Consistent TPM Management' and 'TPM Excellence'.

The seven award-winning M&M plants are:

- Automotive Division - Igatpuri Plant
Capacity: 200,000 units per annum
Products: Scorpio, Quanto, Bolero, Verito, e-Verito, Thar

- Automotive Division - Kandivli Plant
Capacity: 100,000 units per annum
Products: Thar, Bolero, Bolero Maxi Truck, Bolero Pikup

- Automotive Division - Nashik Plant 1
Capacity: 200,000 units per annum
Products: Scorpio, Quanto, Bolero, Verito, e-Verito, Thar

- Automotive Division - Haridwar Plant
Capacity: 100,000 units per annum
Products: Alfa Load Carrier, Alfa Passenger, e-Alfa Mini, Bolero

- Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd, Chakan, Pune
Capacity: 320,000 units per annum
Products: XUV500, SsangYong Rexton, Maxximo, Supro, MTBD Trucks, Genio, Bolero Power, TUV300, KUV100, Construction equipment

- Tool and Die Plant, Nashik

- Automotive Plant & Farming Division, Zaheerabad Plant
Capacity: 100,000 units per annum
Products: Alfa Load Carrier, Alfa Passenger, Jeeto, Jeeto Minivan, Bolero Camper, Long King Trucks, Tourister, Sherpa Buses, Farming Equipment

In a tweet, Vijay Kalra, chief of Manufacturing (Automotive Division), Mahindra & Mahindra, said: 'JIPM TPM awards 7 M&M Automotive Division plants in one go at Kyoto, Japan. Significant step towards journey for Excellence. Testimony of Team's commitment for Zero Defect, Zero Accident and Zero Breakdown. Well done Team!!'
