Gurgaon-based auto component maker Sandhar Technologies Ltd has acquired the cabin business of Arkay Fabsteel Systems of Ambethan, Pune.
Sandhar has taken over the design, manufacture and sale of operator cabins for backhoe loaders, excavators, wheel loaders, cranes, skid steers and tractors including assets, rights under contracts, intellectual property and proprietary information relating to the Arkay business along with the company’s regular employees.
With this acquisition, Sandhar has doubled its production capacity of cabins while getting access to the cabin business and customers at Pune including JCB, Atlas Copco, TAFE, Mahindra Construction Equipment, Ashok Leyland, John Deere and Potain.
Sandhar plans to generate a business of Rs 1,000 crore by 2020 from the construction and earthmoving industry, including Mag and Sandhar Caama.
The Faridabad-headquartered Arkay is a leader in the design, development, manufacture and supply of cabins for construction equipment, tractors, mining equipment and other diverse applications.
“With this acquisition, we have strengthened our existing business of cabins, increased capacities and added customers. Pune is a base of construction equipment manufacturers and with this we add a location advantage for our existing customers, also,” said Jayant Davar, co-chairman and managing director of the Sandhar Group.
With a turnover of $300 million, the Sandhar Group currently comprises 30 manufacturing units and has a presence in Spain, Poland and Mexico. Recently, Sandhar set up four new plants at Bawal, Pathredi, Pune and Mexico. Sandhar Distribution Division has also started to focus on aftermarket sales.
Among other components, the company has production of relays at its Gurgaon plant under its technical collaboration with Jinyoung Electro-Mechanics Co of South Korea with a state- of-the-art clean room facility.
Manufacturing at the new plant of Sandhar Han Sung, a JV with Han Sung International Module Press of Korea for manufacture of high precision press parts, insert moulded contact plates and switches is to start from January 2015. Doo Young Cho will be moving from Korea to India as the president of the JV Company.
