Sandhar Technologies is working as one of the main vendors to supply two child parts in the wiper system assembly of the all-new fully electric Tesla Model 3.
The home-grown Tier 1 supplier has put a new feather in its hat by being on the vendor list of the parts bin of the much-in-demand Tesla Model 3 from the US-based electric car company.
Sandhar Technologies will be supplying two components to the wiper system assembly of the Model 3 from its Spanish subsidiary, Sandhar Technologies Barcelona, which will be shipping these parts from its Mexico plant. Though the specific parts have not been revealed, these are aluminium pressure die-cast parts used in the wiper system.
According to Sandhar Barcelona, “This is an emblematic project for us because we are supplying two parts from Mexico, used for the wiper system. We are very proud to contribute with our job in this next generation of cars.”
This development is another instance of the growing capabilities of Indian suppliers. Earlier today, Vinnie Mehta, director-general, ACMA, tweeted, “Congratulations Tesla for the rollout of new Model 3. Even more proud of Sandhar, an Indian company, for supplying two components. Way to go Sandhar!”
Sandhar, which specialises in automotive latches and lock systems, with being a prime vendor to many OEs in India, including Honda Cars India. It recently expanded its product portfolio, by venturing into wiper blades, electric fuel pumps, mechanical fuel pumps and starter motors.
To fulfil this range diversification, it recently struck a joint venture agreement with Korea’s Daewha Fuel Pump and also included ACG and oil filters into its offering.
Earlier this month, Tesla rolled out the first production-ready Model 3, which is slated to go into stage-wise mass production at the company’s facility in Fremont, US, starting with 30 cars in July, and then attaining a consistent 20,000 units per month capacity by December 2017.
The Model 3 is the cheapest Tesla yet, pegged at $35,000 (Rs 2,251,375) and boasts of performance statistics of 0-100kph time of less than six seconds and a range of 400km on a single charge.
