Saab, which is part of a Sweden-India Transport Innovation & Safety (SITIS) collaboration effort to reduce more than 150,000 road fatalities suffered every year in India, by collecting real-time road monitoring data, the Saab SAFE platform can be used to prevent roads fatalities.
Saab will collaborate with Indian partners on new civil security solutions for several different sectors including airports, road traffic safety, public safety, smart cities, mining sites and environmental protection.
At the India Sweden Innovation Day forum on Civil Security, Saab has announced a range of solutions for India’s industrial sector. One of these solutions is SAFE, an integrated command and control solution within public safety sector, critical infrastructure and transportation systems.
The data collected within SITIS, using cameras, sensors and logging equipment is fed into the SAFE platform to devise solutions that reduce accidents and fatalities.
“Saab AB will support the Indian civil security sector with the SAFE platform, a proven state-of-the art solution within command and control. These solutions can make India’s public areas safer, more efficient and more secure,” says Peter Engberg, Vice President, head of Traffic Management, in Saab business area Industrial Products and Services.
Saab will collaborate with Tech Mahindra on the civil security solutions across various sectors. The solutions will be based on the Saab SAFE platform and customised for each industrial sector.

The SITIS partnership engages the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and NITI Aayog. The SITIS Collaboration includes the following partners: Autoliv, Ericsson, Manipal Hospitals, Altair, Saab, Tech Mahindra and Volvo Group, as well as universities and research institutes; India Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi), Chalmers University of Technology, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden; and the technical authorities ARAI, and the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI). The platform engages also with the Vision Zero Academy at the Swedish Transport Administration, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (Govt of India) and NITI Aayog. Sweden-India Business Council (SIBC) is the secretariat for the partnership. The project has now completed an eight-month initial trial of the SITIS Connected Safety-Bus platform in Karnataka.
