Renault India partners Mahindra Cero for vehicle scrappage

With India's vehicle scrappage policy shaping up, manufacturers are now getting on board with their own programmes. Renault has now joined Mahindra as one of the first carmakers to offer a vehicle scrappage scheme, under its new ‘R.E.L.I.V.E’ programme.

Offered in partnership with Cero Recycling, a joint venture between Mahindra Intertrade and state-run MSTC, the ‘R.E.L.I.V.E’ programme offer prospective customers the option of scrapping their end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) through Renault’s dealerships. Renault has said that its programme covers both, two- and four-wheelers and will initially be available in Delhi-NCR, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore.

Speaking on the announcement, Venkatram Mamillapalle, country CEO and MD, Renault India Operations said, “We are extremely confident that this partnership will ensure a hassle-free experience for the customers and adoption of better technology and promote safety on the Indian roads in a scientific and environment-friendly manner.”

Renault says that owners of ELVs can bring their vehicles to Renault’s dealerships in the above mentioned locations to avail of the service. Under the programme, ELV owners will be offered a fair scrap value quote for their vehicle, along with addition benefits on purchase of a new Renault, should the owner opt for the service.

Renault and Cero Recycling will handle the entire process, from vehicle evaluation to de-registration with the RTO, and provide the owner with the Certificate of Deposit/Destruction.

The carmaker, however, has not revealed the benefits that will be offered on scrappage of four-wheelers, while two-wheeler owners will be offered a special 7.99 percent rate of interest from Renault Finance on purchase of a new car.
