Public oil sector already taking preparatory steps for BS VI emission norms

Speakers at the 6th Integer Emissions Summit & AdBlue Forum India 2016, held in New Delhi from September 27-28, have confirmed that the public oil sector has already started investing in BS VI fuel refineries in preparation for the legislative leap.

However, for other industry sectors, automotive experts have suggested that an interim solution equal to Euro 5 might be needed until all stakeholders, particularly fuel suppliers, are fully prepared to upgrade to BS VI.

Representatives from both the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) and Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) agreed that stricter emissions regulation is essential to improving India’s air quality, as well as developing the country’s automotive industry. However, questions still remain around whether India is able to reach its ambitious goal set by BS VI emissions norms within the given timeframe of four years.

The Integer Emissions Summit & AdBlue Forum India 2016 was attended by over 150 senior executives from across local and international governmental, vehicle and engine manufacturers, as well as emissions technology suppliers. The summit has discussed fuel efficiency strategies, hybrid technologies for passenger cars, and the way forward for emissions control in the non-road mobile machinery sector and hosted the first ever AdBlueâ Forum, which explored the potential for the AdBlue market in India.
