Piaggio delivers first batch of Ape Electrik under Switch Delhi initiative
The Delhi EV Policy has set an ambitious target of ensuring that one-fourth of all new vehicle sales to be electric or 500,000 EVs in the State by 2024.
Piaggio Vehicles along with government of Delhi has handed over the first batch of 11 Piaggio Ape’ electric e-autorickshaw based on the exclusive permits issued by the state government.
The event took place at IP Depot of Delhi Transport Corporation in presence of Arvind Kejriwal, chief minister of Delhi, Kailash Gahlot, Delhi state transport minister, Manoj Sahai, zonal manager and Khushvir Sharma, regional manager for Piaggio India.
Saju Nair, EVP and Head Commercial Vehicle Business, Piaggio India said, “The Delhi government has announced a lot of incentives for EV buyers like purchase incentive of Rs 30,000 per vehicle and subsidy of 5 percent on interest for loans and/or hire purchase scheme. These initiatives have given a boost to OEMs like us and we look forward to extending our support to other such initiatives.”
The ‘Switch Delhi’ campaign initiative focuses on spreading awareness about the benefits of EVs, particularly zero tail-pipe emissions, as well as encouraging citizens to increasingly opt for green vehicles by availing the government’s incentives under the Delhi EV Policy which was introduced in August 2020.
The Delhi EV Policy has set an ambitious target of ensuring that one-fourth of all new vehicle sales to be electric or 500,000 EVs in the State by 2024. The Policy has also received accolades globally for being one of the best EV policies in the world.
