Ola defers S1, S1 Pro sales by a week to September 15
Purchase process delayed by a week due to technical issues with the website; no change in reservation queue
Ola Electric has announced that the sales date for its electric scooters has been postponed to 8am on September 15, which is exactly a month after the company officially launched its first product.
The S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters are priced at Rs 99,999 and Rs 129,999, respectively. These prices are ex-showroom, including FAME II subsidy, but excluding state subsidy.
The online purchase process for Ola's much-awaited S1, S1 Pro electric scooters was set to begin on September 8. However, the company had “many technical difficulties in making their website for purchase live”. The company has apologised to those who waited for several hours.
Ola Electric has said that it has developed a completely digital purchase method, including an online loan procedure without any paperwork. However, it couldn’t go through with it on September 8 because the website wasn’t up to Ola Electric’s expectations.
The company has said that when the website goes live in about a week’s time, buyer’s reservations and position in the queue will remain unchanged. Ola Electric has also said that there won’t be any change in the delivery dates.
On August 15, the company had launched its e-scooter at a very competitive and disruptive price-tag of Rs 99,999. The price-tag turns lower when additional benefits from the various state subsidies are factored in. With the government’s recent announcement that EVs will not be charged road tax, the base Ola Electric scooter could end up costing less than the likes of even the conventional petrol-engined Honda Activa 125 on-road. The company says deliveries are set to begin from October 2021.
