Okinawa Autotech, the Gurgaon-based electric scooter manufacturer is looking into some big strategic measures starting with a high-speed electric motorcycle that it claims would be a completely ‘Made in India’ product except for the lithium-ion cells. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the company is coming up with a new facility adjoining to the current one to further expand its production capacity and hopefully by March 2020 enter the European markets.

Jeetender Sharma, founder and managing director of Okinawa Autotech told Autocar Professional that the upcoming bike would be a high-speed electric motorcycle that would be able to reach a top speed of around 100-120 kph and have a range of about 150km/charge. It is learnt that the company is looking to incorporate a generous 4kwh battery pack for upcoming models which could include the motorcycle as well. Furthermore, it would be a detachable lithium-ion model. While talking about the new models and the models that the company is offering under the FAME-II scheme, Jeetender said that the bike to be introduced could be priced very competitively and meet all the criteria to come under the ambit of FAME-II.

Talking about the new facility, Jeetender explains that after expanding the current plant with the addition of a new conveyor, Okinawa will have its second plant near the existing one in order to meet the rising demand for electric scooters in India, especially in the urban regions. The added capacity would also enable them to venture into the prospects of exporting the scooters to the European markets, most probably by the end of this fiscal year or by early April 2020.
