Nissan Motor India today launched the new model year 2017 Sunny sedan. Pricing for the Japanese carmaker’s flagship sedan starts from Rs 791,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), with the car available in dealerships across the country starting today.
The new Sunny 2017 gets two powertrain options: a 1498cc, HR15 petrol engine coupled with the Xtronic CVT, and a 1461cc K9K DCI diesel engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Nissan India says the diesel variant offers fuel efficiency of 22.71 per kilometre.
The company is offering an aftersales package with a 2-year/50,000km warranty along with free roadside assistance. All these enhancements will be available across the range of current Sunny variants in the Nissan India line-up.
According to Nissan India, some of the highlights of the new Sunny include a ’Sandstone Brown’ exterior colour, chrome door handles and an optional all-black interior with black fabric seats and black interior panels. Other features include intelligent key, push-button start, and safety options including anti-lock braking (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), and brake assist (BA) in all grades with dual front and side airbags.
Announcing the new model, Arun Malhotra, managing director of Nissan Motor India, said, “Nissan India is constantly listening to the voice of our customers. The New Sunny 2017 is a testimony to this with its spacious interior, comfortable drive feel and fuel-efficient engines. The new features and coloor options offer more to our customers at the same price and we are confident this package will attract new Nissan car buyers.”
Since its introduction in India in September 2011, the Sunny has sold a total of 54,656 units in the domestic market. This number comprises 16,159 petrol variants and 38,497 diesel variants.
Uptick in sales
Nissan Motor India is seeing an uptick in its domestic sales. In December 2016, the carmaker sold a total of 3,711 units, up 21 percent over December 2015. For the April-December 2016 period, cumulative sales are 42,838 units, a year-on-year growth of 50 percent. The growth has come from new products like the Datsun Redigo and the Redigo Sport.
In October 2016, the Nissan Motor India group, which manages the sales and service support for both Nissan and Datsun brands, announced plans to introduce up to eight new cars from the Datsun and Nissan brands to India by 2021. These new products in the pipeline include the recently-launched Nissan GT-R and the launch of the X-Trail Hybrid in 2017. The company, which currently has a market share of 1.91 percent (up from 1.31% in April-December 2015) is targeting a 5% market share by the year 2020.
