MG introduces CVT option to Hector petrol range

The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol will now come with a manual, DCT or CVT gearbox options.

After introducing the refreshed 2021 version of its mainstay MG Hector SUV in the Indian market on January 7, MG Motor India today announced addition of a CVT option to the petrol-Hector line-up.

The Hector petrol that comes equipped with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, 141bhp turbocharged petrol engine will now get an 8-step CVT option with prices starting at Rs 1,651,800, ex-showroom.

The new transmission option will be offered in both five-seater Hector as well as six-seat Hector Plus variants and will remain alongside the existing six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). While the former is known for smooth, jerk-free gearshifts and suits a relaxed driving style, the latter is meant for keen drivers looking for brisk performance.

According to Gaurav Gupta, chief commercial officer, MG Motor India, “Building on its unparalleled features, Hector, much like MG as a brand, has created a distinct legacy for itself. The introduction of Hector 2021 CVT automatic transmission furthers our steadfast commitment to providing a wide range of choices to our customers. The CVT has always been a popular transmission with buyers looking for a comfortable and relaxed drive. We are confident that this new transmission will strike a right chord with buyers and further raise the MG Hector’s popularity.”

The Hector petrol CVT will continue to offer It offer5-year/ unlimited kilometres warranty, 5-year Roadside Assistance, and Free Labour Charges for the first five periodic services.  The company also claims that the MG Hector provides lowest maintenance cost starting at Rs 45 paise per kilometre for petrol as calculated up to 100,000km of usage.

MG has sold over 40,000 units of the Hector SUV in India since its launch in July 2019. The company has expanded its network to about 250 touchpoints across 65 cities in the country.
