Mercedes-Benz India today launched a special-edition E-class, christened Edition E at Rs 48.6 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). The vehicle has been commissioned in order to commemorate 20 years of Mercedes-Benz E-class’ in India.
Available in petrol and diesel variants, the petrol E200 'Edition E' is powered by a 2.0-litre, 181bhp four-cylinder motor. In terms of diesel power, the car gets the options of two engines –a 2.1-litre, 201bhp, four-cylinder motor in the E250 CDI 'Edition E', and a more powerful 261.5bhp, 3.0-litre V6 in the E350 CDI 'Edition E'.
Commenting on the occasion Roland Folger, managing director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “It is a moment of immense pride for us that the E-Class which is the highest selling luxury sedan in India, completes 20 glorious years of production in India. The E-Class which was the first luxury sedan to be produced by Mercedes-Benz for the Indian market, also kick started our journey in India. Twenty years of E-Class in India, also reiterates the influence of brand Mercedes-Benz on customers and its contribution towards the evolution of luxury motoring in India. In these 20 years, we have delivered 32,000 E-Classes to our customers that have dominated the mid-size luxury segment in India. Every new generation of the E-Class has redefined the segment and created a new benchmark. The launch of the ‘Edition E’ strongly underlines our strategy of periodically refreshing our existing best-selling products, enabling to win customer confidence and offer them value driven products.”
To make the car stand out from its standard counterpart, the special edition models comes with ‘Edition E’ badging, an illuminated three-point star on the front grille, tweaked fibre-optic tail-lamps that flash during emergency braking, adaptive LED headlamps and an electric sunroof (standard).
Inside, the E-class Edition E gets features such as a Comand system with an SD card-based Garmin navigation system and access to Mercedes-Benz apps, active park assist with rear camera, sporty pedals, illuminated door sills and electric adjust front seats with memory function. The E350 CDI additionally, gets a 360-degree camera, a Harman Kardon 14-speaker surround sound system and a rear seat entertainment system.
In terms of safety, the Edition E comes equipped with eight airbags, seat belt tensioners and Neck-Pro active head restraints system for the front seats.
The E-class is one of the models in the carmaker's line-up of 12 new cars to be launched this year. In fact, the E-class has been one of the carmaker’s highest selling cars in the country. Mercedes-Benz ended 2015 on a high note as it sold a record 13,502 units in the year ending December 2015, up 32 percent as against 10,201 units sold in 2014. It has surged ahead of rival Audi to grab the No 1 spot as India’s top-selling luxury carmaker.
