Maruti Suzuki posts 29 percent sales increase in August

Riding on increased footfalls in showrooms and improved consumer sentiment, Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest carmaker, has posted a 29.3 percent increase in domestic sales in August.

Maruti Suzuki posts 29 percent sales increase in August

Riding on increased footfalls in showrooms and improved consumer sentiment, Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest carmaker, has posted a 29.3 percent increase in domestic sales in August.

The company sold a total of 98,304 units last month compared to 76,018 in August 2013. While the entry level duo of the Alto and Wagon R hatchbacks sold 34,686 units in August 2014 (August 2013: 32,019) to record an 8.3 percent increase, the quartet of compact cars (Swift, Ritz, Celerio and Dzire) posted growth of 53.2 percent, selling 46,759 cars (August 2013: 30,512).

Sales of the SX4 sedan, which is soon to be replaced by the upcoming Ciaz, was down 85 percent and sold only 50 units last month. The popular Ertiga continues to impress and has sold the bulk of the 5,491 units sold in August. Interestingly, the Omni and Eeco vans sold nearly 10,000 units in August 2014.
