Maruti Suzuki India has launched the S-CNG variant of the S-Presso, which becomes the latest and 10th model in its CNG portfolio. The company has two variants on offer: the S-Presso LXI S-CNG at Rs 590,000 and the VXI S-CNG at Rs 610,000.
The S-Presso S-CNG is powered by the K-series 1.0-litre dual jet, dual VVT engine develops peak power output of 56.69 ps at 5300rpm and max torque of 82.1 N at 3400 in CNG mode. Available with a five-speed manual gearbox, the S-Presso S-CNG delivers fuel efficiency of 32.73 km/kg.
Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, said, “The S-CNG version will build on the success of the popular S-Presso, of which we have sold over 226,000 units. The S-Presso S-CNG is sure to delight customers with its amazing fuel-efficiency and strong performance. We now have 10 S-CNG models in our portfolio, which are designed to reduce ownership cost and strengthen our commitment to a greener and cleaner environment.
The S-Presso is the 10th model in the Maruti Suzuki portfolio to offer a petrol-CNG bi-fuel option. Other models include the Alto, Wagon R, Celerio, Dzire, Ertiga, Eeco, Super Carry, Tour-S and Tour H3, and the Swift. The company's CNG sales have grown from 76,000 units in FY2018 to over 264,000 units in FY2022, registering 63% YoY growth over FY2021’s 162,000 units.
All the CNG models are fitted with dual-interdependent Electronic Control Units (ECUs), an intelligent fuel injection system, stainless steel pipes and joints, along with integrated wiring harnesses for the CNG system. The S-CNG system comes with a microswitch that ensures the engine is turned off and does not start during the CNG fuel-filling process. Maruti Suzuki’s S-CNG systems are engineered to provide an air-fuel ratio that ensures superior performance and enhanced driveability, with better savings.
Maruti Suzuki continues to have a ‘problem of plenty’ – as of early September, the company had cumulative pending orders of over 400,000 units. Its CNG models, at the time, accounted for an estimated 125,000 units of the backlog.
