Mahindra & Mahindra, it seems, came to the Auto Expo, with a mission to showcase its length and breadth of vehicles. Earlier today, the company revealed its all-new XIV Aero concept coupe, displayed SsangYong’s best-selling Tivoli SUV and then launched the e2o Sports and the new range of trucks branded Blazo.
The high-powered team from M&M at the India Expo Mart comprised Anand Mahindra, chairman, Mahindra Group; Dr Pawan Goenka, executive director, M&M; Pravin Shah, president & chief executive (Automotive), M&M, Rajan Wadhera, president & chief executive, Truck & Powertrain & head, Mahindra Research Valley, M&M; Arvind Mathew, CEO, Mahindra Reva, and Nalin Mehta, CEO, Mahindra Truck & Bus Division, M&M.
The XUV Aero concept is based on the flagship XUV500 and is Mahindra’s attempt at making a coupé-style SUV for the masses, a niche body type otherwise made popular by more expensive cars like the BMW X6 and the recently launched Mercedes GLE 450 AMG Coupe. It has been designed in-house at the Mahindra Design Studio in Kandivali, Mumbai.
The Renault Duster-sized Tivoli, which is slated to be introduced in the Indian market later this year, is available with a 1.6-litre petrol engine in markets abroad. However, M&M is likely power the Tivoli with its 1.5-litre diesel engine to keep prices competitive.
The e2o is Mahindra’s full-electric sports car claimed to have a range of 200km with the performance of an 80 KW powertrain. Other highlights include 0-100kph in 4sec and a 384V high voltage power pack.
M&M has also displayed the e-Verito sedan with auto transmission. It can be charged at home and can also be quick-charged in 2 hours through fast charging (top-end). A single charge is good enough for 100km, albeit depending on vehicle loading. The e-Verito, which has a top speed of 86kph, comes with ECO drive mode and remote diagnostics which includes real time and immediate assistance.
Another Mahindra EV on display was the Supro Electric 8-seater mini-van powered by advanced lithium-ion batteries. Capable of covering a distance of 100km on a single charge, the Supro Electric Van is fully automatic and can hit an electronically limited top speed of 50kph.
Speaking on the company's product display, Anand Mahindra said, “Mahindra is constantly striving to push the boundaries of technology and innovation while developing new mobility solutions for a rapidly evolving world. The Auto Expo is the perfect opportunity to showcase our new range of automotive products. We are particularly proud of the XUV Aero which represents a paradigm shift in our design philosophy. SsangYong’s new Tivoli compact SUV, which is a big success in its home market of Korea, is the first brand new product from SsangYong after Mahindra’s acquisition. And our electric vehicles on display reflect Mahindra’s vision of the Future of Mobility which we believe would lead to the creation of more sustainable urban areas in the future.”
Dr Pawan Goenka added, “While being an important platform for us to showcase our product offerings, the Auto Expo also helps us to highlight our offering of ‘Accessible Technology’ and gauge the aspirations of our customers. We are delighted to showcase our design studio which will showcase our design thought process epitomising the Mahindra Rise philosophy of innovative and alternative thinking. Our product offerings at the Auto Expo reflect a true sense of the ‘Make in India’ philosophy, yet being suitable for global mobility solutions.”
