Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has launched a sub-four metre variant of the Bolero at a price of Rs 6.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Navi Mumbai). The new compact SUV is christened Bolero Power+ and costs Rs 1 lakh less than the regular Bolero SLE.
Powered by the 1,493 cc mHawk D70 engine, the new Bolero has 13% more power and 5% more mileage over the existing Bolero. The three-cylinder unit delivers 71hp at 3,600rpm and 195Nm of torque at 1,400-2,200rpm, and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The 7-seater Bolero Power+ will be available in three variants – SLE, SLX & ZLX across Mahindra dealerships pan India. The top-spec ZLX gets tech features like Mahindra’s Micro Hybrid system, an audio player with Bluetooth/USB/AUX/CD, body-coloured wing mirrors, rear washer and wiper to name a few. The carmaker is offering a three-year/ one-lakh km warranty on the Bolero Power+.
Speaking on the new launch Pravin Shah, president & chief executive (Automotive), M&M said, “The Bolero has been India’s no. 1 SUV for 10 years in a row from 2005-06 to 2015-16 and the all new Bolero Power+ is an evolution of this powerful brand. In our endeavour to enhance the product value proposition, we have introduced the new Bolero with the mhawkD70 engine delivering more power, mileage and a peppier drive. I am sure that the new Bolero, with its overall better value proposition, will heighten its appeal not only amongst its core customers but also excite more buyers.”
The new Bolero is Mahindra’s fourth compact SUV within a year after the KUV100, TUV300 and the NuvoSport. The Bolero, first launched in August 2000, has been long popular in rural markets throughout the country. However, sales have been on a decline in recent times with Mahindra selling 17,832 units of the Bolero in the current fiscal up to July.
