Lucas-TVS to use Automechanika Frankfurt as platform for global customers
The Chennai-based Tier 1 supplier is exploring aftermarket deals in the US and Europe as well as Asian customers at the world’s largest automotive aftermarket trade fair.
Automechanika Frankfurt 2016, which opened today in Germany, has 52 ACMA members participating in the show. One of them is the Chennai-based Lucas-TVS which deals in auto electricals and is a TVS Group company.
Autocar Professional spoke to AG Satvinder Singh, executive director of the company, who is at the global trade fair. He said that the company is exploring options of wooing customers mainly from the USA, Europe and to a smaller extent from Asia at the show.
Since the exhibition opened its doors this morning, Lucas-TVS had visits from 4-5 prospective aftermarket customers and more are expected during the five-day biennial trade fair. Lucas-TVS is displaying components for the four-wheeler and two-wheeler segments ranging from alternators, starter motors, wiper motors, fan motors and compressor motors for the four-wheeler category and starter motors for the two-wheeler aftermarket.
“We have received enquiries from prospective international customers from the USA and Europe but we expect some orders to come from Asian customers as well,” said Singh. He is hopeful that most of these enquiries will convert into orders for the passenger car, commercial vehicle and agricultural segments.
Lucas-TVS has a fair share of OEM exports to North America and Germany. The aftermarket constitutes around 15-16 percent of its total business with exports contributing about 25-30 percent of its total sales.
Earlier the company had been tapping the aftermarket in Brazil and South Africa and also had some distributors located in these geographies for marketing its products. Now it is expanding its reach further to other regions where its market was mainly OE-based till now.
