Bangalore-based electric fleet service provider Lithium Urban Technologies (Lithium) has inked a strategic partnership with IT major Wipro to drive sustainability initiatives across the value chain. As per the partnership Wipro will use Lithium's electric vehicle fleet for employee transportation across India.

Lithium first started servicing Wipro’s Hyderabad campus in June 2018 and has successfully deployed electric cars covering a cumulative distance of over 4 million kilometres and thus saved 800 MT of CO2e in a short span of time.  The aim is to rollout in a phased manner over the next 12-18 months EV fleet powered by renewables, catering to Wipro’s employee transportation needs across the country.

Wipro says around 40-50 percent of energy used at the company's campuses is from renewables, and it targets to convert 35 percent of fleet to electric in the next 18 months, and to reach 100 million 'green' kilometres.

Commenting on the partnership, Sanjay Krishnan, co-founder and CEO, Lithium Urban Technologies said; “Wipro is the example globally for corporate citizenship. The company’s core values drive its unrelenting focus on governance and sustainability. Mr. Premji recently spoke about profit in sustainability, and that to any organisation, apart from social consciousness, profit is the biggest motivator towards sustainability, that they generate from lower carbon emissions. We are indeed privileged to be a part of this journey at Wipro for the last 18 months. This journey which started in Hyderabad is now being expanded nationally, backed by proven results. We aim to deliver some fantastic results in terms of both, cost savings and carbon footprint reduction. It is indeed our privilege to partner with Wipro in serving the nation and saving the planet.”

Nittan Bhalla, General Manager and Head - Facilities Management and Operations at Wipro, “As a part of Wipro’s commitment to ecological sustainability, we are continuously involved in multiple environment-related programs both within and outside our business boundaries. Hence, the decision to move to EVs for our employee transportation services was natural for Wipro since it involved public health benefits – cleaner air in cities, as well as mitigating carbon emissions. Lithium was our obvious choice as Wipro has greatly benefitted from its partnership with the company ever since our successful collaboration last year to transition our vehicle fleet to EVs in Hyderabad.”
