India's first indigenously developed e-bus to be launched soon

KPIT Technologies has partnered with a commercial vehicle OEM for launching India's first indigenous built electric bus.

As India embarks on a journey towards mass scale electric mobility, developing an efficient ecosystem becomes absolutely critical. Among the few companies which has made some early moves in this direction is KPIT Technologies.

The Pune based technology company has developed India's first indigenous system for an electric bus, that will see a commercial launch soon. It is learnt that the company has partnered with a commercial vehicle OEM. When contacted, KPIT Technologies declined to comment on which OEM it has partnered with.

The electric bus was first showcased in Parliament on December 21, 2015.

It is learnt that the bus will be a more efficient version of the electric bus that was showcased at the Parliament two years ago. The new bus will have a driving range of 120 KMs and will be powered by a 186 kW/hr battery pack. The bus showcased in 2015 had a driving range of 100 KMs. The new bus will be a 32-seater.    

KPIT's full electric system can be deployed to convert existing conventional fuel buses into electric vehicles. The company has around 20 patents for this technology.
