Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has launched the country’s first electric charging station at its fuel station in RBI Square, Nagpur, in collaboration with shared mobility service provider Ola.
In yet, another first for the country, the cab-aggregator along with IOC, has inaugurated the country’s first electric charging station at its company owned and company operated fuel station in Nagpur.
Murali Srinivasan, executive director, Maharashtra State Office, IOC, said, “As India’s leading oil refiner and marketer, Indian Oil considers promoting ecological sustainability as part of its core business. Thus, this partnership with Ola is the right step forward as we re-imagine how India will commute in the coming years. We applaud Ola for building the electric vehicle eco-system from a nascent stage in Nagpur and are happy to partner with them in their efforts. EVs have the ability to solve some of the key issues we are currently facing with respect to vehicular pollution and air quality; and as a large-scale mobility platform, Ola can bring about a catalytic change.”
It is not the first time that Ola as a mobility service provider has engaged actively in the EV segment. Earlier this year, it started its pilot programme with an investment of Rs 50 crore in Nagpur for launching 200 electric vehicles in shared-mobility space that included – cabs, buses, rickshaws and autos. Mahindra, Tata Motors, Kinetic, BYD, TVS were few of the big names that supplied the EVs to Ola. To facilitate smoother adoption of its fleet, it also launched four charging stations in the city.
