Indian Oil despatches BS VI-compliant diesel to Honda Cars India and Mahindra

Indian Oil Corporation’s Mathura refinery has started despatches of BS VI- compliant high-speed diesel to Honda Cars India and Mahindra & Mahindra, the oil manufacturing company said today in a tweet.

The despatches are to test the viability and engine compatibility of the two automakers’ products. A PTI report has quoted SM Vaidya, general manager, Mathura refinery, Indian Oil, as saying: “Though the government has set a very stringent target of April 2017 for meeting BS VI standard fuel quality, the Mathura refinery has completed the target ahead of the set deadline.”

“BS VI standard high-speed diesel will contain only 10ppm sulphur and motor spirit will be high standard also. Since MS VI is also ready for testing, the refinery is having an interaction with automobile companies on this count,” added Vaidya.

Earlier in September 2016, Indian Oil had announced the setting up a mega refinery in Maharashtra. The company also plans to add about 24 million tonnes per annum refining capacity through brownfield expansions over the next five to six years. These will be concurrent to the projects being undertaken for the production of BS VI-grade auto fuels by April 2020.
