A new platform is set to be created by June for identifying and implementing the Make in India programme for the aerospace and defence sectors.
Manohar Parriker, Union defence minister, made this announcement at the second aerospace and defence summit 'Indian auto component industry - Make in India for Aerospace and Defence’ in Delhi today.
He said the platform would constitute public sector undertakings who would get on board MSME suppliers from the auto component industry to improve localisation of parts for the aerospace and defence sectors.
The Defence Ministry would also form part of this platform and together they would work out the right mechanism to implement it to ensure proper production and quality of products.
Parriker pointed out that while volumes from the Defence sector may be limited, the suppliers would be better paid for the orders compared to the automotive sector.
