Hyundai Motor India has announced that it will introduce the all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 in the country later in the second half of CY22 The Ioniq 5's introduction is part of the Korean carmaker's smart mobility vision that also aims to demonstrate its focus on sustainability. The EV will be the first model in HMI's strategy to launch six new all-electric cars in the Indian market by 2028.
As per the company, the term Ioniq is a fusion of worlds 'ion' and 'unique', that was announced as a long-term research and development project focusing on sustainable mobility. The crossover was recently awarded the World Car of the Year 2022 title, and comes built on Hyundai's dedicated E-GMP modular skateboard architecture. The Ioniq 5's most distinctive feature is the 1980s design language. Its clean and crisp lines, flat surfaces and a typical SUV design give it a unique look.
The cabin features sustainable materials and the Ioniq 5's modular platform allows for better space management with a completely flat floor, offering the flexibility of sliding second-row seats.
While the company hasn't revealed the specs of the India model, the Ioniq 5 is globally available in two powertrain options – a single-motor setup that produces 169hp and a dual-motor setup which produces 306hp and 605Nm of peak torque. There are two battery options – a 58kWh and a larger 72.6kWh – which delivers a range of 481km on the WLTP cycle.
