Honda CB Shine SP rides past 100,000 sales milestone

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s (HMSI) 125cc CB Shine SP commuter motorcycle has crossed the sales milestone of 100,000 units barely nine months since its launch in the domestic market.

Commenting on the motorcycle’s sales in India, Y S Guleria, senior vice-president (Sales & Marketing), HMSI, said, “The CB Shine SP is one of the highest contributors in terms of volume towards the growth of the 125cc category (April-August 2016).”

It may be recollected that in November 2015, Honda launched the all-new variant named CB Shine SP positioning it above the regular CB Shine variants. While the CB Shine SP was the 15th product under HMSI’s aggressive product launch strategy in 2015, the model was rolled out in three variants (drum brakes, front disc brake and combi-brake equipped variants) in the price range of Rs 60,000-Rs 64,400 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The company was manufacturing the CB Shine SP models at its Manesar plant, which soon saw 100 percent capacity utilisation of these 125cc motorcycles. Honda later added the production of CB Shine SP models at its Bangalore plant.

While the CB Shine SP’s sharp styling and sporty character have given it a fillip in the commuter bike market, other product highlights include stylish graphics, curved fuel tank, digital analog meter console, dual tone side-cover, five-split alloy wheels with discs and a 2-piece muffler. The bike also gets the Combi-Brake System (CBS) with Equiliser, an advanced braking systems which enhances rider-convenience. The refined Honda Engine Technology- (HET) enabled 125cc four-stroke engine, mated to a five-speed gearbox, provides highest-in-class rear wheel power and a high power output at all speeds.

The CB Shine SP has also given HMSI a new weapon to help it recapture top spot in the 125cc motorcycle market from leader Hero MotoCorp.
