Hero MotoCorp has rolled out a new Glamour, aiming to make the most of the upcoming festive season.
The new variant, called Glamour Blaze, which is priced at Rs 72,200 (ex-showroom Delhi), is powered by the same 125cc BS-VI engine that develops 10.7hp at 7500rpm and torque of 10.6 Nm at 6000rpm.
The motorcycle features Hero’s proprietory i3S (idle start-stop system). Some new highlights include a USB charger to the handlebar, side-stand ‘on’ indicator, matt vernier grey color and funk-lime yellow graphics.
Glamour brand picking up pace
The Hero Glamour brand looks to be getting back in the game. Once a powerful seller, numbers had dropped substantially. However, this motorcycle is seeing demand return. In August 2020, it sold 54,315 units albeit down 10.5% on year-ago sales.
What is likely to give the Glamour a new charge is the bike’s recent entry into the 125cc segment. This space currently houses some popular motorcycles like the Honda SP 125 and the Bajaj Pulsar 125, so the Glamour definitely has its work cut out. While it displaces an identical 124.7cc, the single-cylinder engine powering the new Glamour is new but gets a 5-speed gearbox in place of the 4-speed unit on the older bike.
The Glamour is available in two variants – one with a drum brake at the front and the other with a disc brake – priced at Rs 69,750 and Rs 73,250, respectively, which is just Rs 2,300 more than their corresponding fuel-injected BS IV models. At the price point, the Glamour costs around Rs 1,500 less than the Pulsar 125 and a little over Rs 4,000 less than the Honda SP 125. For not a lot extra, Hero is giving more refinement and features, in addition to all that the Glamour previously had to offer, which is a pretty good deal.
Hero on a roll in September
The world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, which has announced a rejig in its management to strengthen its leadership team, reported despatch of 715,718 units in September 2020, Hero MotoCorp. While this constitutes a 16.9% YoY increase (September 2-19: 612,204 units), it also marks the highest monthly sales for the calendar year so far. On a month-on-month basis, Hero’s numbers are up by 25% compared to August 2020’s 568,674 units.
As regards Q2 performance, despite the disrupted network of components supply chain due to the non-availability of labour and logistics issues, Hero MotoCorp sold 18,14,683 units in the second quarter (July-September 2020) of the current fiscal, clocking healthy YoY growth of more than 7.3 percent. The company had sold 16,91,420 units in Q2 FY2020.
