As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, General Motors India’s Talegaon and Halol manufacturing plants undertook several initiatives on Earth Day, April 22, 2016, in order to spread the green message around the communities where they are located.

At GM India’s Talegaon plant, near Pune in Maharashtra, employees joined hands with a school to clean the banks of the Indrayani River and also planted a flower bed to mark the occasion. They also volunteered to switch to the usage of cloth bags from plastic, under the ‘Use Me Again Campaign’.

Earth Day was celebrated at the Halol plant in Gujarat with employees planting tree saplings and organising a ‘Green Talk’ under the theme ‘Trees for the Earth’. The event was a multi-stakeholder approach with participation from visitors as well as officials from the local administration. It was followed by a tree plantation drive wherein 20 trees were planted near the reception area of the Halol plant.

“The core focus of GM India’s environmental efforts on Earth Day 2016 was to protect biodiversity, support communities and their livelihood and leading sustainable development and environmental protection,” said Swati Bhattacharya, vice-president, Corporate Communications, General Motors India.
