Ford India has launched the Figo automatic priced between Rs 775,000 ex-showroom for the Titanium variant and Rs 820,000 for the Titanium+ trim. The hatchback gets a six-speed torque convertor gearbox from the EcoSport, mated to its 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Dragon petrol engine.
The six-speed AT is mated to the 96hp, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Dragon petrol engine that develops 119Nm of peak torque. The transmission also gets a Sport mode and SelectShift features to make the drive more engaging.
While the automatic option has been introduced on the mid-spec Titanium trim that gets a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, redesigned alloy wheels, ESP and traction control as standard, the top-end Titanium Plus variant gets additional features such as auto-headlamps, six airbags and automatic climate control.
The Ford Figo automatic will compete with cars such as the Maruti Swift AMT, Maruti Suzuki Baleno CVT, Honda Jazz CVT, Volkswagen Polo Automatic and Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger CVT as well. Since the Figo was first launched in India in February 2010, Ford has cumulatively sold 323,644 Figos; until end-June 2021, the petrol-diesel split stood at 121,373 petrol variants and 202,271 diesels.
However, the company has been struggling over the recent past with domestic sales in Q1 FY2022 only being at 11,171 units, compared to its combined annual capacity of 440,000 cars and 610,000 engines at its two plants in Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and Sanand (Gujarat). Moreover, the calling off of its merger with Mahindra & Mahindra right at the start of 2021, has put Ford’s new model plans for India on hold.
According to Vinay Raina, executive director, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford India, “Ford is committed to serving customers in India and is proud to introduce the world-class automatic technology for customers in the mass-market segment.”
“With a proven legacy of outstanding performance, unmatched safety, superior technology and segment-best connectivity, we are confident that new Figo AT will be an automatic choice for several new buyers who don’t believe in look-alike automatics like AMT,” he added.
The Figo automatic will come with a three-year / 100,000km standard warranty and will offer connectivity functions such as remote lock / unlock and engine start / stop via the FordPass app.
