The Faridabad-based company, which is a preferred vendor to Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki India, plans to ramp up its filters and lubricants business. While it has been exporting two-wheeler filters to the US and European markets for Honda and Suzuki applications, it has consistently introduced the latest filters in the domestic market. This range includes filter elements, plastic moulded air filters and foam filters for all two-wheeler applications of Hero MotoCorp, Suzuki Motorcycle India, TVS Motor Co, Royal Enfield, India Yamaha Motor, DSK Motowheels, Bajaj Auto and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI). It has an expansive network of over 1,000 distributors and 30,000 retailers across the country.
Given the growing importance of Gujarat as an automotive hub and with two-wheeler majors like HMSI setting up a new plant, Elofic plans to set up its own manufacturing operations in the state by 2017. The company, which was set up in 1951, currently has five modern filter manufacturing facilities – three at Faridabad in Haryana, one at Hosur in Tamil Nadu and one at Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh. It also has a state-of-the-art oil blending unit at Faridabad and markets long-life engine coolants and silicon gaskets for engines.
The company has a government of India-recognised R&D centre at Faridabad, which is equipped with the latest testing and calibration facilities. As a result of a sharp focus on quality production, Elofic says it has consistently been at the forefront of the quality movement in India. It received ISO:9002 certification in 1995, was among the first 10 companies in the country to be awarded the QS:9000 certificate in 1997 and upgraded its ISO:9002 Certification to 9001 in 2000. Subsequently, it was the first filter company to be awarded the TS 16949:2002 certificate in 2004. Thereafter, it was the first filter company to be awarded the ISO:9001 certificate for all its branch offices for marketing across the country. In between, it won the Rajiv Gandhi Award for Quality in 1998 and the ACMA Quality Award in 1999. Chairman M S Sahni received the All India Best Entrepreneur award in the medium industry category for 2007. Elofic is currently certified for ISO/TS 16949:2009, OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2004.
