Delhi-based start-up Pillion has begun commercial operations of its electric bike taxi service in the capital city. The company has introduced 60 battery operated two-wheeler in the first-phase of its operations, says ANI.

The GPS-enabled e-bike service will be operating in Karol Bagh, Jhadewalan and nearby areas, with the base fare starting at Rs 15 and Rs 5 per kilometre. Commuters can hire the e-bike service by calling its call-center number or board from metro stations in the areas where these two-wheeler taxis ply.

The service is available at a flag-down price of Rs 15 and Rs 5 per kilometre. One can also board the two-wheelers from metro stations in the areas where these e-bike taxis ply.

"We have increased the number of e-bike taxis to help commuters avoid the traffic as well as arrest the rising problem of air pollution. By setting up India's first two-wheeler electric taxi service, we aim to help commuters to make the most of switching over to mobility option with zero pollution and reach last-mile destinations at an affordable price without any fuss. We hope to cover more areas in Delhi and offer our services to more people soon," said Karan Chadha, co-founder Pillion, Karan Chadha.

The company says its drivers have been enrolled after rigorous rounds of screening and police verification. They are also trained  on various factors – customer management, safe driving practice, traffic rules and first-aid. It claims that all its passengers and drivers will have insurance coverage of upto Rs 100,000.

Pillion says its service will prove to be beneficial for office-goers, students and general commuters.
