Chip-impacted Maruti Suzuki sells 63,111 units in September, down 57%

Passenger vehicle market leader has reported sale of 63,111 units in September 2021, down 57% on year-ago sales of 147,912 units. The massive shortage of semiconductors, which saw the company slash production by 60 percent in September, clearly has had an impact.

The entry level hatchback duo of the Alto and S-Presso sold a total of 14,936, down 27% on August 2021’s 20,461 units. The six-pack – Wagon R, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire and Tour S – sold a total of 20,891 units, down 73% on August’s 45,577 units.

Its UVs – Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, S-Cross, Gypsy and XL6 – sold a total of 18,459 units, down 24% over August’s 24,337 units.

From the looks of it, October too is going to be a difficult month for the carmaker because yesterday it announced that its production is continuing to be impacted by the shortage of semiconductors.
