GTX Eco is Castrol’s first ‘Eco’ product in its GTX range for cars in the Indian market.

Castrol has launched the first ‘Eco’ product in its GTX range – Castrol GTX Eco – for diesel cars in the Indian market. Interestingly, India is the first market to get the eco engine oil. The company plans to launch the petrol variant of the same in the coming months.

Castrol has launched the first ‘Eco’ product in its GTX range – Castrol GTX Eco – for diesel cars in the Indian market. Interestingly, India is the first market to get the eco engine oil. The company plans to launch the petrol variant of the same in the coming months.
Castrol GTX Eco uses a base oil blend of 50% virgin oil and 50% re-refined oil. A rigorous re-refining process includes dewatering, defueling, demineralisation, vacuum distillation and distillate treatment. GTX additive technology is then used to fortify the oil to create a high-performance product that can help to extend engine life but with 10% less CO2 produced from the oil’s lifecycle.
Despite the usage of re-refined oil, the company says that the product, when compared with standard Castrol diesel products, provides the same level of protection to extend engine life. The lubricant manufacturer says that the GTX Eco delivers 10% less CO2 when compared to standard products.
According to Kedar Apte, head of Brand and Communications at Castrol India, “Our team of experts has achieved what was previously thought impossible: to deliver significant CO2 reductions from the oil’s life cycle, while providing the benefits of Castrol GTX Diesel, which helps to extend engine life by providing two times better protection from soot problems. By re-refining used oil and delivering it as a high-quality product, Castrol GTX Eco delivers CO2 reductions without compromising on engine performance or protection.”
Highlighting the company's ambition, Tony Smith from the company's technical team in the UK said, "The ultimate objective is to develop 100% re-refined oil. We believe re-refined oil is the future of the lubricant market."
Castrol GTX Eco is launched at the same price as the standard product – Rs 1,600 for a five-litre pack. The company has rolled out the engine oil only in Mumbai in the initial phase with other cities to follow soon.
