Bosch to temporarily shut Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra plants due to slowdown

There seems to be no respite from the ongoing slowdown for India Auto Inc. In a regulatory filing German Tier 1 supplier, Bosch's Indian operation announced that it will suspend all manufacturing at its Gangaikondan facility in Tamil Nadu and Nashik facility in Maharashtra for five and eight days respectively.

The suspension will take place on August 10, 16, 17, 24 and 31 at Gangaikondan facility, while the Nashik facility will be shut on August 16, 17, 26 to 31. The Tier 1 says, the step is taken in order to "adjust production to meet the demand for products and avoid unnecessary buildup of inventory."

This is the second time the company has shut operations at its Gagaikondan plant in the last two months. Last month, the company had shut operations for a period of two days — July 27 and July 29.

Battling with slowdown OEMs and supplier are facing huge inventory buildup, to counter this the industry has been asking the government to reduce GST to drive sales. In fact, CV major Ashok Leyland had taken a similar approach when it suspending manufacturing activities at its Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand for five days between July 16-24.
