Suzuki Motorcycle India has accomplished the production milestone of rolling out six million two-wheelers from its 540,000-unit annual capacity plant in Gurugram, Haryana. The milestone comes 15 years after the company commenced independent operations in the Indian market in February 2006, after its earlier JV with TVS that lasted 19 years between 1982 and 2001.
The plant is home to products including the company’s top-selling Access 125 scooter, Burgman Street, Gixxer 150 and 250 series and the recently-launched Avenis 125 scooter that has ridden out to become the six-millionth Suzuki scooter off the company’s assembly line. The Avenis was introduced in November 2021.
According to Satoshi Uchida, MD, Suzuki Motorcycle India, “This year marks the completion of Suzuki Motorcycle India’s 15 years in the country. It is indeed heartening to also announce the roll out of our 6 millionth Suzuki two-wheeler product in India from our Gurugram plant. We are grateful to all our customers for their trust and loyalty that they have shown in the brand. We are delighted that we could reach this landmark despite the challenges thrown by the second wave and the global semiconductor shortage across the world,” Uchida added.
Leading the charge of the company’s scooter sales, the Access 125 sold 282,000 units between April and October 2021, registering a year-on-year uptick of 49 percent and accounting for 83 percent of Suzuki Motorcycle India’s sales in the first seven months of FY2022. The company sold a total of 337,817 units in the same period to register a 48 percent YoY growth over 227,721 units sold between April and October 2020, and retained its No. 3 spot in scooter sales after HMSI and TVS Motor Company.
