Jaipur-based automotive lighting equipment manufacturer Autolite (India), which is part of the Autopal-MPG Group, is bullish on India’s ambitious push towards achieving an all-electric vehicle fleet by 2030. The component manufacturer is now diversifying into the manufacture of electric three-wheelers, lithium-ion battery packs and Battery Management Systems (BMS).
At its annual Board meeting held yesterday, the company announced plans to set up a production line for lithium-ion battery packs and Battery Management Systems in collaboration with a foreign company.
The component maker said it has recently bagged an order from a leading OEM worth Rs 480 crore that would be supplied in a phased manner. It also announced that the company had started trial production of electric three-wheelers for transporting passengers, goods and carrying garbage, among other usage patterns. The e-three-wheelers, according to the company, have received a good response from its trial market in Rajasthan. Autolite is now exploring the market to introduce the EVs in other parts of the country.
Currently, the company’s new electric three-wheeler has received approval by the Central Institute of Road Transport, Pune. Its current manufacturing capacity of 500 e-three-wheelers per month will be scaled up to 2,000 units per month in a phased manner.
The company, which has been supplying to Indian OEMs for over four decades, also exports to more than 56 countries with the bulk of its export business coming from the US and Europe. The group supplies to all the major OEMs in India and also has a major presence in the aftermarket segment with a widespread dealer and distribution network. The group has core competencies in the manufacture of automotive headlamps, work lamps, LED lamps, fog lamps, turn signal lamps, halogen bulbs, incandescent bulbs and miniature bulbs.
