Auto Expo 2016: Mahindra to unveil GenZe electric scooter in India

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) will unveil its first electric scooter, the GenZe, on February 3 at the upcoming Auto Expo.

Mahindra GenZe, which is already on sale in the USA, will be unveiled in India for the first time. The electric two-wheeler will be showcased by M&M’s executive director, Dr Pawan Goenka; company’s Farm Equipment & Two Wheeler division’s president & chief executive, Rajesh Jejurikar; GenZe’s president and CEO, Vishwesh Palekar and COO of Mahindra Two Wheelers, Vinod Sahay.

Apart from the GenZe, the company will also launch the Mojo Tribe along-with the display of Mahindra and Peugeot's portfolio.

Founded in 2012 with a goal to develop sustainable urban transportation solutions, the company recently showcased GenZe 2.0, its first electric scooter with a removable lithium-ion battery, which is designed and built in the United States, at the EICMA 2015 show in Italy. On January 13, the company also introduced the GenZe 2.0 in the US market priced at $ 2,999 (Rs 1.90 lakh).

The connected scooter uses multiple AT&T IoT products including Global SIM and AT&T Control Center to build the GenZe mobile rider solution. The GenZe Cruise–Connect System monitors data through a cloud–based system and governs settings through the app. That means riders will be able to use their scooter’s connectivity to look at vital information like battery level and various driving statistics. The app will also display emissions and will let drivers shift between more powerful and more eco-friendly modes.

In wake of the FAME scheme, the EV industry, mainly the electric two-wheeler manufacturers, are trying to rebuild and ramp up their production, marketing and distribution network in the country.
